IBSD organized INSA popular lecture in Shillong
Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) organized INSA popular lecture
on “Detailed studies of plant pathogens can lead to novel means of disease control” at 6 th Mile,
Upper Shillong. During the programme, Prof. Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IBSD
mentioned that IBSD is organizing such programmes in NER to popularize new ideas/ concepts
of science and to inculcate scientific temperament among students/ researchers/ faculties for the
development of bioresources of the region. He also highlighted various activities of IBSD for
promoting scientific interventions for bioresource management and its sustainable development
in the region. This lecture was delivered by Prof. Steven E. Lindow, University of California,
Berkeley and highlighted the research work on Xylella fastidiosa which causes major diseases of
grape, citrus, olive, almond and many other major crop plants. He highlighted various examples
of plant pathogens which can lead to novel means of disease control.
The programme was attended by students and faculties from Shillong College, St. Edmund’s
college and other institutions from Shillong, Meghalaya. During the programme, many
researchers, scientists also joined online from different centres of IBSD and other DBT institutes.
