BSF JAWAN PURNAM KUMAR SHAW REPATRIATED AFTER INADVERTENT BORDER CROSSING

Purnam Kumar Shaw, a 40-year-old BSF personnel from Hooghly, West Bengal, who accidentally crossed the India-Pakistan border on April 23, was handed over to Indian authorities at the Attari check post on Tuesday. Shaw, posted in Punjab’s Firozpur, had crossed the border a day after a terror attack in Pahalgam, which heightened tensions and delayed his return.
The BSF confirmed his peaceful repatriation and noted that such incidents are usually resolved through flag meetings. However, Pakistan had not responded to repeated requests due to ongoing tensions. Shaw was in uniform and carrying his service weapon at the time of the crossing.
His wife Rajani, who traveled to Chandigarh with their son after his detention, thanked all who supported their family, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her reassurance and efforts.
