IA&AD, SHILLONG AUDIT DIWAS CELEBRATIONS
The Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IAAD) offices in Shillong
commemorated the third Audit Diwas with a series of events between the 16 th to 24 th
November 2023. A Panel Discussion on "Strengthening the Functioning and
Oversight of Local Governance Institutions in Meghalaya" on 22 nd November 2023 in
which Patricia Mukhim, Editor “The Shillong Times” and Prof S. Umdor, Head,
Economics Department, North Eastern Hill University Shillong were the main
Speakers, an Inter College Quiz Competition and a Seminar on “Enhancing
Accountability through Geo-spatial Technology” on 24 th November 2023 organized in
collaboration with the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC),
Department of Space were the highlights of the week long celebrations.
It may be mentioned that the President of India had inaugurated the nation-
wide celebrations of the 3 rd Audit Diwas on 16th November 2023 at the office of the
CAG of India, New Delhi. Audit Diwas 2023 is being celebrated to mark the history
and heritage of the Supreme Audit Institution of India.
The concluding day of the Audit week celebrations in Shillong was held at
the office of the Pr Accountant General (A&E), Meghalaya Shillong on 24 th November
2023 in which C H Kharshiing Pr Accountant General (A&E) and Shefali S Andaleeb
Pr Accountant General (Audit) & Director Genaral, Regional Capacity Building and
Knowledge Institute Shillong spoke on the significance of the event and the role
played by the CAG’s Institutions in holding the Executive accountable through its role
as mandated in the India Constitution.
While delivering his speech on the role of Space Technology for
development of NER Dr S.P. Aggarwal, Director, NESAC mentioned the huge strides
made the Indian Space Research Organisation in making India one of the world
leaders in this Sector. He also indicated areas where spatial technology could be
used in improving audit processes and techniques. Dr Dibyajyoti Chutia, Head, GID,
NESAC spoke on the role of ICT enabled Geospatial Technology towards
empowering Governance activities in NER, while Nilay Nishant Scientist-SE, GID,
NESAC gave a live demonstration of the North East Spatial Data Repository
(NeSDR) and its various tools and analytics for Governance and Monitoring services.
The finals of the inter-College Quiz Competition, which was well choreographed by
Mr Nicholas Jyrwa, an eminent Quiz Master from the city, saw enthusiastic
participation from all the six finalist teams. At the end St Anthony’s College
represented by Christina Themsingphi A.S. and Debashish Kakati emerged the
winners with K L Bajoria College represented by Dondor Nongrum and Kenneth
Lalringlien as the first runners-up and Marbiangdor Syiem and Aiborlang Marbaniang
from Shillong Law College as the second runners-up.
