A conflict situation escalated at Lapangap village in the  East Jaintia Hills between the local residents of Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya and adjacent Karbi Anglong District of Assam. Pending the border dispute between Meghalaya and Assam, there is an alleged provocation on the Assam side of Karbi Anglong, where Assam police could not control the Karbi people from confrontation with the Pnar people of Meghalaya.

Within around a week of the inauguration of the Karbi Students’ Hostel in Shillong, by Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam and the cordial discussion between Pyniaid Sing Syiem, CEM of KHADC and Tuliram Ronghang, CEM, KAADC regarding the prevailing tension between the Karbi and the Pnar people in the Assam Meghalaya border, the hostile situation seems to intensify near Lapangap village. The resistance was also participated by women firing with slingshots towards the Karbi side as they rigorously attacked the Pnar residents, injuring three menfolk.
