MEGHALAYA COMMEMORATES COURAGEOUS FREEDOM FIGHTERS IN GRAND JAN JATIYA GAURAV DIVAS CELEBRATION
The Meghalaya state government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, initiated the Jan Jatiya Gaurav Divas celebration through a week-long Tribal Pride event. This event highlights and acknowledges the significant contributions of freedom fighters such as u Tirot Sing, u Kiang Nangbah, and u Patogan Sangma, who bravely fought against the British during India's pre-independence era. Chief Guest and Minister of Arts and Culture, Paul Lyngdoh, along with the Deputy Chief Executive Member of the KHADC, Pynshngain N Syiem, paid tribute to these freedom fighters by placing wreaths at the statues located at the Soso Tham cultural complex in Shillong. Earlier, cultural troupes from differents parts of the State marched from the old Assembly premises to State Central Library in a colourful carnival with majestic tableaus depicting the tribal achievements in various aspects of social and political engagements through the ages.
