MEGHALAYA CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES HISTORIC RAJ BHAWAN IN TURA, GARO HILLS

Shillong, January 12, 2024: A long cherished dream of the people of Garo Hills came into
fruition with the inauguration the new Raj Bhavan at Tura, West Garo Hills District. The
building was inaugurated by His Excellency Hon’ble Governor Shri Phagu Chauhan in virtual
mode on the 12 th of January 2024.
Chief Minister Shri. Conrad K Sangma, Shri. Thomas A Sangma, Hon’ble Speaker, Meghalaya
Legislative Assembly, Smti Agatha K Sangma, Member of Parliament, Tura, and Deputy
Commissioner, Shri. Jagdish Chelani were physically present at Tura to witness the
momentous occasion.
In his address, the Hon’ble Governor said that a dream of the people of Garo hills has come
true with the construction of the Raj Bhavan at Tura. Lauding the efforts of all concerned in
achieving this milestone, the Governor opined that the with the construction of the Raj
Bhavan, the development of Garo Hills will move forward at a faster pace. Citing the
examples of heroes like Pa Togan Nemminja Sangma, who sacrificed their lives for the
betterment of his people and the country, he appealed to the youth of Garo hills to
contribute to the development of the state, so as to fulfil Prime Minister Shri Narendra
Modi's dream of 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra'.
Expressing joy and pride on completion of the project, Chief Minister, Shri. Conrad K Sangma
said, "This is a historic moment for the State and specifically in the History of the Garo Hills
region. I thank the Hon'ble Governor in his support to make this project possible."
To further state the significance of the structure, Shri. Sangma said, "This governor house is
not just a building but a symbol of inclusiveness and show that all the people in the state are
one and United. This is another long-standing project that our government was able to
successfully complete. The Raj Bhavan stands as a symbol of architectural excellence and
civic pride, representing the heart of the city's promising future. It is of great pride that Smti
Draupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India, would be residing in this complex during her
upcoming visit.”
The complex, located in the Danakgre area of Tura town, is built at cost of Rs.24.1 crores
and covers an area of 28.45 Acres. The completion of this project is testimony to the
government’s efforts towards administrative decentralisation beyond the capital region.
