In Meghalaya, football holds immense cultural and sporting significance. The region boasts a vibrant football tradition, with community-driven clubs and tournaments playing a central role. Meghalaya also enjoys a fervent fan following and has nurtured skilled players who have excelled in both national and international arenas. The Mawkynrew Cup, initiated in 2017 by the MLA of Mawkynrew Constituency, Banteidor Lyngdoh, has been a boon for the local youth, providing them with opportunities to represent the club at the Shillong League in Polo Grounds, Shillong. Once again, on October 27, 2023, the Mawkynrew Cup Committee will host the 4th edition of the tournament.
