The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) today celebrated its 48th Foundation Day, marking nearly five decades of its existence and contribution towards the welfare and unity of the Khasi community.

The Union was founded on March 20, 1978, by a group of dedicated and patriotic students who possessed a strong sense of responsibility and a vision to unite various sub-groups of the Khasi community, including the Khynriam, Pnar, Bhoi, War, Maram, Lyngngam and Diko. Their collective aim was to strengthen unity and safeguard the identity and interests of the Khasi people.

The celebration was attended by KSU President Lambokstarwel Marngar, General Secretary Donald Thabah, members of the Union, besides friends, well-wishers and members of the public.

The motto of the Union, “Mait Shaphrang Khlur Ka Ri,” which translates to “Strive Forward Children of the Soil,” continues to guide its activities and principles. Over the years, the organization has been led by committed leaders who have rendered selfless service, often making personal sacrifices for the cause of the Khasi people and the larger Hynniewtrep community.

Since its inception, the KSU has expanded its presence across Khasi-inhabited regions in Meghalaya, Assam, Mizoram, New Delhi, Bangalore and others regions of the country.

Headquartered in Shillong, the Union functions through its Central Executive Council, the apex decision-making body, along with several district units, circles and local units spread across Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep and other parts of the country.

The occasion was marked by reflections on the Union’s journey, its achievements, and a renewed commitment to uphold its founding ideals in the years to come.
