KHADC GAINS APPROVAL FOR DELIMITATION COMMITTEE IN PREPARATION FOR 2024 MDC ELECTIONS
On the 26th of September, 2023, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), overseeing approximately 29 constituencies, formally submitted a request to the Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan, through the State Government's District Council Affairs department, seeking authorization to establish the Delimitation Committee for the forthcoming MDC elections in 2024.
KHADC’s Deputy Chief Executive Member, P.N Syiem, on Thursday, informed that the Delimitation Committee will be headed by Dr. S. Kharsyiemlieh, Rtd. Judge, District Council Court, as Chairman along with three members – Dr. S.L Marbaniang, Ex MLA, R. Myrboh, Rtd. School Teacher, Dr. D.R.L Nonglait, Prof. Dept of Khasi, NEHU, and Secretary M. Kharkrang, Rtd. Secretary of KHADC.
Syiem said that the decision to form the Delimitation Committee was made after the district council had received over 15 written applications from villages who had requested the council to shift or re-arrange their villages to other constituencies vis a vis.
When asked about the criteria for re-organization of various villages, Syiem said that it will be based on the population and geography of such villages but the final criteria will be framed by the committee.
