In an effort to stem the influx of illegal migrants into Meghalaya, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, led by Chief Executive Member Pyniaid Sing Syiem, expressed a willingness to collaborate with pressure groups or organizations possessing credible information on migrants without proper legal documentation within the KHADC's jurisdiction. During a press briefing on December 8, 2023, Syiem acknowledged the challenge faced by the KHADC in monitoring migration due to a shortage of enforcement officers across all five districts of Meghalaya.
