The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC), Khliehriat Circle, has taken a proactive stance on the issue of dust pollution stemming from the ongoing National Highway construction in East Jaiñtia Hills by engaging directly with the site engineer of Purbanchal Buildtech Pvt. Ltd., the company executing the project.

The Council initiated the meeting in response to mounting public concern over excessive dust generated by construction activities, which has reportedly been affecting daily commuters, students, and residents in the area. JNC representatives cited adverse impacts on public health and quality of life as key reasons for their intervention.

Prior to the meeting, the Council had submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, urging the concerned authorities to ensure that the roads were regularly watered during construction to mitigate dust pollution. Although an official directive was subsequently issued to the contractors, JNC alleged that the instructions were not being followed on the ground.

In their meeting with the site engineer, JNC members pressed for immediate action and reiterated the urgent need to implement dust control measures. Following the discussion, the engineer reportedly assured the Council that the roads would be watered twice a day moving forward.

The JNC has stated that it will closely monitor the situation to ensure compliance and warned that further action would be taken if the issue remains unaddressed, stressing that the health and well-being of the local population must be prioritized.
