HYC CRITICIZES A L HEK’S REMARKS ON MRSSA, 2016 AS TOOL AGAINST INFLUX
The President of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Roy Kupar Synrem, on Tuesday voiced strong opposition to recent remarks made by BJP legislator A.L. Hek, who cited the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016, as a safeguard against the migration of outsiders into the state.
Addressing media persons, Synrem asserted that the MRSSA was enacted primarily to regulate tenancy and does not serve as an effective mechanism to curb influx. He further criticized Hek for downplaying the demand for the Inner Line Permit (ILP), despite being a signatory to the December 19, 2019 resolution in support of ILP implementation. According to the HYC leader, Hek appeared more focused on promoting tourism than addressing concerns over unchecked migration.
