The spokesperson for the banned HNLC, Sadon K. Blah, stated on Monday that the trilateral peace discussions would persist if the Meghalaya Government opts to drop all charges against the group's leaders and accede to the request for a general amnesty for their members. Blah emphasized the outfit's insistence on a political resolution to their grievances by remarking that the government holds the initiative. This followed the response of the HNLC to the state and central governments wherein, on 31 December, 2023 the outfit had written to the government on their withdrawal from tripartite peace talks
