FROM VOWS TO VIOLENCE: WIFE’S ROLE UNDER SCANNER AS POLICE DEMAND EXTENDED 10-DAY CUSTODY

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, on Wednesday said the police have moved to seek 10-day custody of the prime accused in the murder of her husband, even as he dismissed reports of any confession having been made in Shillong.
Addressing reporters, Syiem stated that interrogation would begin only after the accused are formally produced before the court. He cautioned against drawing conclusions based on unverified reports, particularly those suggesting that the accused had already confessed to the crime.
The SP further informed that the accused would be taken to Sohra for a crime scene reconstruction only after the initial phase of interrogation is conducted in the state capital.
While acknowledging the involvement of Sonam, the wife of the deceased, Syiem underscored the importance of evidence-based investigation, stating, though her role is significant, but the police will need to back the case with solid evidence.
