The Dorbar Kur Rani felicitated one of the founder members of the clan organisation, Mrs Flora Ranee at her residence at Nongthymmai. The central body of the organisation led by President Donny Ranee and General Secretary, Ronee M Ranee presented a Khasi traditional shawl Ryndia nad a memento to the elderly woman seeking her blessings as they also wish her good health and long life. The Ranee clan organisation or Dorbar Kur Ranee was founded on 7th March, 1981 at Laban by around seventy clan members from all over Khasi Hills. The old lady, Flora Ranee narrated the genesis of the clan that was from the four sisters belonging to a royal family in Bengal fled away and sought refuge in the Khasi land. The four sister are the ancestral mother of the four clans, Ranee, Bani, Ryngki and another which they have not been able to remember. However, oral narratives related that the Kharsati and Kharkamni clan claimed to be of the same matrilineal descend and the new leadership is contemplating to conduct a thorough investigation to authenticate the claim.
Meanwhile, Donny Ranee, President asserteed that it is crutial to formulate and strengthen the organisation in order to comply with the official notification of the authorities, particularly the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council for the preservation of the matrilineal system of clan lineage. The organisation also will streamline to prevent any irregular or inapproipriate misutilisation of the clan title for ulterior motive and the functionaries are vigilant to check on such malpractice by vested interest. They also plan to host a series of felicitation programmes for every surviving founding members of the Dorbar Kur Ranee.
