COURT GRANTS 8-DAY CUSTODIAL REMAND FOR RAJA RAGHUVANSHI MURDER ACCUSED

The prime accused in the high-profile murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, Sonam Raghuvanshi, was brought to Shillong from Bihar on June 10, 2025. She arrived at Sadar Police Station at approximately 1 a.m. on June 11, accompanied by a team from the Meghalaya Police.
Following her arrival, Sonam was taken to Ganesh Das Hospital for a routine medical examination, which included a pregnancy test. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem clarified that such tests are standard procedure for married women in custody. The results were negative, effectively dispelling widespread speculation about a possible pregnancy. Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading or believing unverified claims.
Later in the day, Sonam and the four other co-accused—identified as Raj Kushwaha (alleged lover and mastermind), Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi—were also subjected to medical clearance by a Government Registered Medical Officer at the Sadar Police Station.
The group was subsequently produced before the Sessions Court in Shillong under tight security, given the sensitive nature of the case. The court granted eight days of police custody, from June 11 to 19, to facilitate further interrogation and investigation.
