Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma,  on Thursday visited several localities in Tura town to assess the ground situation following recent incidents of unrest and damage to properties.

During the visit, the Chief Minister interacted with residents, community leaders and officials and reviewed the ongoing efforts to restore normalcy in different parts of the town. He also inspected areas where shops and structures had been damaged and assured that the government would take necessary steps to support those affected.

Meanwhile, local residents in large numbers voluntarily joined cleaning drives across different parts of Tura. Community members, youth groups and local organisations were seen working together to clear debris, damaged materials and burnt remains left behind after the disturbances.

The clean-up drives were carried out in several markets and roadside areas, with people using tools and vehicles to remove debris and restore the surroundings.

Authorities and community leaders have appreciated the initiative, stating that such collective efforts are important in restoring peace and normalcy in the town. The administration is also continuing to monitor the situation closely while coordinating with local groups to ensure that restoration work progresses smoothly.

Meghalaya Chief Minister , Conrad Sangma expressed deep concern over the vandalism and burning of the National People’s Party (NPP) office in Tura following recent unrest in the town.

Speaking at the party office, Sangma said that several places, including the NPP office, had been vandalised, attacked and set on fire by some individuals, which he described as deeply saddening. He stated that there was no reason for the party office to be targeted and alleged that the issue had been turned into a political matter.

The Chief Minister said the government had not anticipated such an incident and asserted that those responsible for the acts would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.

Sending a message to party workers, Sangma said those who burned the office might believe that such actions could weaken the party, but maintained that the NPP lives in the hearts of the people and cannot be ended through such acts. He also said that the party would rebuild a better office and continue strengthening its organisation.
