Warjri Clan gets former Chief Secretary Barkos Warjri as its new President at the Congregation at Pyndengumiong, Mairang.
The Annual General Council of the Warjri clan was held in Pyndengumiong, Mairang, located in the Eastern West Khasi Hills District. The event saw a remarkable turnout, with hundreds of clan members attending to participate in a significant gathering. The congregation included the prestigious felicitation of several distinguished members of the Warjri clan who had achieved excellence in various fields of study and career.
Among the honorees were renowned singer Maxter Warjri, who was celebrated for his outstanding contributions to music. Dr. Miracle Warjri was acknowledged for completing her PhD in Chemistry, marking a significant academic achievement. Riffiness Warjri received recognition for her remarkable mountaineering accomplishments, having successfully scaled Mount Abi Gabin in the Himalayan range. Mr. Obinas Warjri was also honored for his extraordinary achievement in the field of martial arts, winning a Silver Medal at the World Muay Boran Championship during the 5th International and Thai Martial Arts Games and Festival. Additionally, Ms. Sunita Warjri and Amos Warjri were commended for their contributions to the world of music.
The primary focus of the council's deliberations centered on the welfare of the clan, with a special emphasis on the preservation of the Warjri cultural heritage, particularly the unique matrilineal system that defines their clan lineage. This discussion highlighted the importance of maintaining and promoting traditional practices while addressing the evolving needs of the community.
The gathering also included the election of the new office bearers for the Warjri clan, ensuring a smooth transition of leadership. The newly elected officials are as follows: former Chief Secretary, Barkos Warjri, was elected as the President; Prosper Warjri and Raphael Warjri were elected as Vice Presidents; Tairossing Warjri was chosen as the General Secretary; Watbor Warjri and Debojit Warjri were appointed as Joint Secretaries; Dr. C.Jones.K. Warjri was elected as Finance Secretary, Ms Benica Warjri, Treasurer; Harkin Warjri, Sports and Cultural Secretary, Victor Warjri as Publicity Secretary; Vincent Warjri, Asst Publicity Secretary, Jeanita Warjri as Auditor; and a host of executive members from various units across Khasi and Jaintia Hills. The advisers are Rudy Warjri and George Arthur Warjri.
This event not only celebrated the remarkable achievements of the Warjri clan members but also reinforced the community's commitment to its cultural heritage and the future direction of the clan.
