Members of the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) on Wednesday staged a protest outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner in East Jaiñtia Hills district against the proposed public hearing concerning Shree Cement.

The protesters raised slogans demanding the immediate cancellation of the public hearing scheduled to be held on May 22. The organisation alleged that the proposed hearing was against the interests of the local people and expressed strong opposition to the cement company’s activities in the region.

Security personnel were deployed at the DC’s office premises to maintain law and order as the demonstrators continued their agitation. JNC leaders warned that the organisation would intensify its protest if the authorities failed to halt the public hearing.
