PMC DISPELS CLAIMS OF DAMAGE TO NEW MEGHALAYA ASSEMBLY BUILDING
The Design Associates, Delhi, serving as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building at New Shillong Township, has clarified that the portion of the terrace roof seen in a viral video was part of ongoing maintenance work and not structural damage as alleged.
Addressing the issue, PMC representative Sumit Roy said the construction of the Assembly building is in its final stage, with only finishing touches and cleaning works left to be completed.
He stated that certain roofing sheets on the terrace roof were scheduled for removal, cleaning and replacement. Following this, the PMC had instructed the contractor two days earlier to dismantle the existing sheets and install new ones.
Roy further informed that the remaining works are progressing steadily and the project is expected to be completed shortly.
The circulation of the video on Friday morning also brought back public attention to the collapse of the dome structure of the Assembly building in May 2022, which had triggered widespread criticism and was subsequently replaced with a roof design.
