As part of the World Environment Day 2025 observance, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, took part in an avenue plantation drive along Ummir Road in New Shillong Township by planting a cherry blossom tree. The event, joined by enthusiastic students and community leaders, served as a collective call to action for greater environmental responsibility.

The initiative is part of a larger plan under which over 10,000 ornamental trees will be planted across the New Shillong area, contributing to the vision of a greener and more sustainable Meghalaya.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasized that World Environment Day should not be confined to a one-day celebration but must inspire continuous and meaningful action. He urged citizens to adopt simple, consistent changes in their everyday lives, noting that the combined effect of individual efforts can lead to a powerful and lasting environmental impact.
