The Directorate of Mineral Resources office at Risa Colony in Shillong came under a suspected petrol-bomb attack in the early hours of Wednesday, triggering a police and forensic probe.

The incident was reported at around 3:30 am, when unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled petrol bombs at the office premises. Preliminary information suggests that two petrol bombs may have been used in the attack.

According to DMR employees, the attackers could not be identified as the incident took place under the cover of darkness. One petrol bomb reportedly exploded against the boundary wall, while another landed inside the office compound and hit a private vehicle bearing registration number ML 05 AC 0429.

The incident has raised concerns over the security of the government establishment, although the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Following the incident, personnel from Laitumkhrah Police Station, accompanied by a forensic team, reached the spot and initiated an on-site investigation. Evidence was collected from the scene as police began efforts to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible.

The investigation is currently underway, and further details are awaited.
