The All Jaintia Muster Roll Workers & Labour Union Central Executive Committee, Jowai, has urged upon the Meghalaya government to implement the revised retirement age of 60 years retrospectively from 25 September, 2025, and reinstate workers who were prematurely retired.

In a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, the union welcomed the Cabinet’s decision to raise the cessation age from 58 to 60 years, describing it as a significant step towards safeguarding workers’ livelihoods.

The union also sought the speedy implementation of the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, for eligible workers, the establishment of departmental welfare boards, and the transfer of administrative responsibilities for muster roll workers from the Personnel and Administrative Reforms (B) Department to the Labour Department.

It urged the government to take immediate action to ensure the effective implementation of these measures and improve the welfare of muster roll workers across the state.
