MEGHALAYA U-20 FOOTBALL TEAM TO ATTEND ELITE TRAINING CAMP IN FRANCE

The Meghalaya U-20 Boys’ Football Team will attend an elite training camp at the Olympique Lyonnais Academy in Lyon, France, from June 5 to 25. A send-off event was held today in Shillong, attended by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
The Chief Minister stated that the government views the ₹2.80 crore spent on the camp as an investment in youth development, not an expenditure. He expressed confidence that such initiatives would yield long-term benefits, especially if players advance to leagues like the Indian Super League (ISL).
Sangma highlighted the state’s broader vision for sports development, including upcoming football infrastructure like 50 artificial turfs and the country’s largest football stadium. He encouraged the players to stay focused and make the most of the opportunity in France.
The team was selected through a collaboration between the Directorate of Sports and the Meghalaya Football Association, following a month-long coaching camp and a strong showing at the U-20 Nationals in Chhattisgarh, where they reached the semi-finals. Defender Rimankhraw Kharumnuid will lead the squad as captain.
The training camp, organised by the Indo-French Sports Association, aims to provide international exposure and valuable learning experiences for the players.
