MBOSE celebration of 50 years of educating youth
The premiere institution for elementary education in Meghalaya, MBOSE completed fifty years of service to the students community of the state. The closing ceremony of the golden Jubilee celebration was graced by State chief minister Conrad K Sangma, who lauded the service rendered by MBOSE to the students' community of the State and said 'Youth at the centre of the vision, mission and accomplishments to drive the state forward. It is not the schemes, projects and infrastructure the yardstick of progress but the potential of youth to demonstrate, perform and excel with their capabilities to deliver and accomplish'.
The opening ceremony of the Gol;den Jubilee of MBOSE was graced by Mr Sñiawbhalang Dhar as chief guest and Mr Rakkam A Sangma Education minister as guest of honour on both days, in the presence of a host of dignitaries including former MLA and Adviser to the education department Mr Himalaya M Shamgpliang and former senior officials of MBOSE. The State Chief Secretary Mr D P Wahlang spoke at length on the performance of MBOSE and presented certain significant data about the status of MBOSE since its inception in 1973. He emphasised that MBOSE caters to many international students from neighbouring countries like Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh through a mere forty institutions in the beginning and now at two thousand schools all over the State.
The chief guest Sñiawbhalang Dhar unfurled the golden Jubilee flag with the traditional salute of NCC cadets and entourage of folk cultural performing artistes from Khasi, Jaintia and Garo cultural troupes escorted the dignitaries to the dais. Later during the function the chief guest list the torch and released the souvenir along with other dignitaries on the dais. Speaking in the inaugural address Dhar said 'Challenges are always there in life, but for every challenge there is always a solution and education is one part of life that's most essential, because education is the ultimate for shaping an individual a family and society'. While upholding the service of MBOSE, Dhar said that during the past fifty years, MBOSE has rendered valuable service to the student community of the state.
MBOSE started with 3797 students in 1974 to conduct examinations and presently 52700 candidates appeared for the examinations in 2023, with other activities of inspiring and promoting excellence in education through incentives and opportunities in diverse educational studies.
The celebration was also marked by cultural performances by the local student community and cultural troupes from Khasi Jaintia and Garo folk performances. Later in the evening, there was musical entertainment performed by local professional bands and an exhibition showcasing the history and various developments of educational services and the potential for further extension of higher education for deserving candidates.
The closing ceremony of the Golden Jubilee celebration also showcased a wide range of exhibitions from the achievements and challenges of MBOSE and other vocational and extracurricular engagements connected with education, particularly folk and contemporary arts.
