KSU LABAN CIRCLE SEALS ALLEGED UNAUTHORISED MOSQUE IN LOWER LUMPARING
Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Laban Circle on Tuesday sealed a religious structure at Lower Lumparing, alleging that it had been unlawfully converted into a mosque by members of the Muslim community and named Lumparing Masjid.
Addressing the media, General Secretary of KSU Laban Circle, Shiningstar Chyne, stated that the organisation initiated the action following a detailed verification of the land ownership. He claimed that the land does not legally belong to any individual and alleged that the structure was developed into a mosque without obtaining the necessary permissions from the Dorbar Shnong or relevant authorities.
He further explained that the site was originally designated for the construction of a residence for a chowkidar tasked with overseeing a nearby Muslim graveyard. However, it was later allegedly converted into a place of worship without authorisation. The KSU also removed the imam from the premises, alleging that he had been residing there and conducting religious teachings without legal sanction.
Meanwhile, the Dorbar Shnong of Lower Lumparing, upon receiving a complaint from the KSU, conducted an inspection and had resolved to dismantle the structure. However, according to the organisation, no subsequent action was taken by the concerned individuals.
The KSU Laban Circle has indicated that it will soon file a formal complaint with the appropriate authorities, seeking the eviction of the structure and necessary legal action in the matter.
