HNYM RAISES OBJECTION TO LIMESTONE MINING PROPOSAL IN EAST JAINTIA HILLS
The Jaiñtia Region unit of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM) has lodged a formal objection with the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaiñtia Hills, Manish Kumar, IAS, against the proposed limestone extraction by M/S Shree Cement Ltd at Lumsyrnam.
In a memorandum submitted to the district administration, the organisation alleged that the proposed mining project, covering an area of 217.319 hectares, violates environmental regulations and contravenes provisions laid down under the Constitution of India.
The pressure group further claimed that the project lacks transparency and has not been clearly communicated to the public, while cautioning that the proposed mining activities could pose serious risks to public health and the ecological balance of the area.
The representation was submitted under the leadership of HNYM Jaiñtia Region president Bartis Rynjah and secretary Mechan Dkhar.
