HANM SEEKS URGENT GOVERNMENT INTERVENTIONON ABSENCE OF MBBS DOCTOR AT MAWLASNAI PHC
The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM), Ri Bhoi District, on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the absence of an MBBS doctor at Mawlasnai Primary Health Centre (PHC) under Mawhati Constituency, following complaints received from local residents.
Acting on the grievances, a team of HANM leaders conducted an inspection of the PHC to take stock of the situation. The delegation was led by Eastern Zone President Bah Woeshall Makdoh, accompanied by Adhoc President Bah Justin Masharing, Bah Khrawpyrkhat Thongni and other members.
During the visit, the team also interacted with the lone doctor posted at the facility, who belongs to the AYUSH stream and is currently handling OPD services.
Addressing mediapersons, Bah Justin Masharing highlighted multiple shortcomings at the health centre, including the non-availability of an MBBS doctor, shortage of staff nurses, absence of proper fencing, and the poor condition of staff quarters.
He further pointed out that the lack of a qualified MBBS doctor has been creating hurdles for patients in availing benefits under the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS).
Stressing the gravity of the issue, Masharing noted that the PHC caters to 42 villages with a population of over 23,700, making it a crucial healthcare facility in the region.
The organisation has urged the State Government to take immediate steps to address the deficiencies and ensure the posting of an MBBS doctor at the earliest. HANM also informed that it would soon take up the matter with the State Health Minister for necessary intervention.
