Former leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) have strongly condemned the alleged police action at the union’s office, claiming that the premises, as well as houses of neighbouring residents, were damaged.

Speaking to the media, former KSU president Lambokstar Marngar said the arrest of three senior KSU leaders followed the stray incidents of vandalism, arson and stone-pelting that occurred during a KSU bike rally in the daytime of August 19, 2026.

The arrests were made in the aftermath of the incidents reported during the rally, following which police personnel allegedly proceeded to the KSU office and damaged the premises.

Marngar said the union could not accept such action, particularly when houses of people residing near the office were also allegedly damaged.

He maintained that the KSU is not confined to the three leaders arrested, stating that the organisation has a broader leadership structure with representatives from different districts.

Marngar further alleged that the government’s action would not douse the situation but could instead add fuel to the fire, calling for restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation.
