FOOD FOR THOUGHT: JNC’S SURPRISE SWEEP TARGETS DIRTY KITCHENS ON WORLD FOOD SAFETY DAY

In observance of World Food Safety Day, the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC), Khliehriat Circle, conducted a series of surprise inspections on Saturday across food stalls, hotels, and restaurants within Khliehriat village to assess hygiene and food safety standards.
Led by General Secretary Symboh Baiar Sumer, the inspection drive revealed that several establishments were found operating in unhygienic conditions, particularly in their kitchen areas. The council expressed concern that such practices pose a risk of disease and endanger public health.
Following the inspection, the JNC issued warnings to the erring establishments, underscoring the need for strict adherence to cleanliness protocols in food preparation, especially as many students regularly patronize these outlets.
Emphasizing that food is vital to life, the council appealed to all food business operators to prioritize hygiene to help prevent the spread of illness. It also urged the Office of the Food Safety Officer to conduct regular checks to ensure sustained compliance with food safety norms.
The JNC cautioned that further negligence on the part of food vendors would invite strict action, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding public health and promoting safe food practices in the region.
