CM CONRAD SANGMA REAFFIRMS PUSH FOR EDUCATION REFORMS AND FARMER WELFARE
Conrad K. Sangma was on Monday felicitated by the All Meghalaya 4th Teachers’ Association, Garo Hills Unit, at a programme in Tura, in recognition of his leadership in implementing the Structure Pay Framework to streamline teachers’ salary disbursement.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister described the gesture as rare and humbling, stating that public representatives were often expected to deliver without appreciation. He said his engagement with teachers since 2016 helped him understand deep-rooted issues in the education sector, adding that necessary reforms had benefitted over 23,000 teachers across categories. He also noted that the introduction of an Education Policy and an Education Commission helped provide direction to the sector.
Emphasising student-centric learning, he urged teachers to prioritise learning outcomes over syllabus completion.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said the reform would strengthen institutional efficiency, while Minister Marcuise N. Marak reiterated the government’s focus on employee welfare.
In a separate programme, the Chief Minister attended an Input Distribution Programme organised by the Agriculture Department in Tura, where he reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing farmers’ income.
Addressing the gathering, he said over 70 percent of households depended on agriculture and that targeted schemes were being implemented to boost productivity and livelihoods. He said timely access to quality seeds remained a concern and was being addressed in mission mode.
Referring to the Ginger Mission, he said over ₹62 crore had been invested since 2022, benefiting more than 19,000 farmers. He also underscored the importance of organic practices and value addition, stating that initiatives like vermicomposting units and food processing infrastructure would improve market access and incomes.
Inputs under various schemes were distributed during the programme, with officials highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen farmer support and agricultural sustainability.
