Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday said the State Cabinet had approved a One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme offering relief to commercial vehicle owners with pending Motor Vehicle Tax, Goods and Passenger Tax, and Fitness Fees.

Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said the Government had approved a 90 per cent waiver on penalties for pending fitness certificates and an 80 per cent waiver on pending MV Tax and Goods and Passenger Tax. The scheme will remain valid till August 31, 2026.

The Cabinet also approved regulations on the use of official name boards on government vehicles to ensure greater discipline and clarity, while curbing VIP culture.

In another decision, the Cabinet approved an amendment to the Meghalaya Forest Authority Act, 1991 to strengthen coordination between the Forest Department and Autonomous District Councils in forest management and conservation.
