Assam and Nagaland Foundation Day Observed

Shillong, December 2, 2023: In line with the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative
of the Government of India, which aims to foster stronger connections and promote
mutual understanding among people from different states and Union Territories, a
cultural evening was held at Raj Bhavan Shillong to commemorate the Foundation
Day of Assam and Nagaland.
Hon’ble Meghalaya Health Minister, Dr. M Ampareen Lyngdoh graced the occasion
as the Chief Guest in the presence of Dr. Lajja Ram Bishnoi, Director General of
Police, Meghalaya, Shillong, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, Dr B D R
Tiwari, IAS, and other dignitaries and invitees.
Dr. Lyngdoh expressed her profound delight in participating in the
celebrations in her address. She emphasized the importance of cultural integration and
understanding, stating that such initiatives are pivotal in strengthening the
nation’s rich tapestry of diverse traditions.
She also lauded the accomplishments of Assam and Nagaland, commending their
contributions to the nation’s development and cultural identity. Drawing inspiration
from the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative of the Government of India, Dr.
Lyngdoh underscored the importance of celebrating unique identities and cultural
heritage of each state to foster greater integration and nurture a deeper
appreciation for each other's languages, customs, and cultures.
Dr. B. D. R. Tiwari, in his address, conveyed the message of the Hon’ble Governor of
Meghalaya and delved into the historical tapestry of Assam and Nagaland, while also
shedding light on their remarkable strengths and achievements.
The cultural evening witnessed enthusiastic performances showcasing the rich
cultural traditions of the two States.
Earlier, the Foundation Day message of the Honorable Governor of Assam, Shri
Gulab Chand Kataria was screened for the audience.
The program was organized by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR)
Shillong in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture, Government of
Meghalaya.
